The Lammas Song
Every sin is harvested in the end.
Ethan Rowe claims he’s never left the city, but there’s something buried in Cornwall that he’s spent his adult life avoiding. When his relationship with Liv fractures, she suggests a week in Zennor, the Cornish village where she grew up.
On the road down, his headlights catch a figure at the verge — white-robed, its head wound with woven wheat, facing the oncoming car. He brakes, and it’s gone. In Zennor, the locals dismiss his unease too easily. The village — older than the stones on its moor — was meant to be a fresh start. Instead it feels like it’s been expecting him.
After a late-night argument, Liv walks out into the dark. And doesn’t come back. The local police are unhelpful, and as the village closes ranks, Ethan realises the wheat figure wasn’t a warning. It was a welcome.
